I talked with Lizzy's nurse this morning and she said she is still breathing fast. 100 plus breaths a minute compared to where it should be at 40 to 50 breaths. We will get the test results back this afternoon from her cultures which will let us know if it confirms infection. Please continue to pray for us as it is discouraging that she is not getting better yet.
Yesterday the doctor ordered a sonogram of her heart because the 2nd X-ray he took was worse then the first. This concerned him because if it is just fluid in the lungs she should only be getting better. He had a 3rd X-ray taken 8-12 hours later and it had improved and looked much like the first. So he wanted to have a Cardiologist check her heart to make sure we were not missing anything. When we went last night to visit the Cardiologist said it was looking at a perfect heart of a normal baby. Praise God! So we are back to thinking that there is a good possibility it is an infection after all. Either way we have been treating it for almost 3 days now and only have another week of antibiotics if infection ends up being the cause. We will post later today when we find out more.
"The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance." Psalm 16:6

NICU
For those of you who are not up to date on what is going on with Lizzy let me start by saying there is no cause for alarm. Also, please forgive us if you are just finding out by reading this post. We have done our best to call and e-mail to let everyone know what is going on and now we will start posting on it so that we can give updates on the blog.
I noticed yesterday after Joshua left to take the sprouts home that Lizzy was taking short rapid breaths while she was sleeping. I called the nurse to come and check her just to make sure there was nothing wrong. She listened to her lungs and said that Lizzy should go to the nursery to be checked by the doctor because she was not suppose to be breathing so fast. 20 minutes later I was walking down the hall to NICU with my head spinning with all the what if's...
The NICU doctor ordered an X-ray to be done and it showed what he expected, fluid in the lungs. He said that this can be caused by the baby taking in too much fluid during delivery which is not an uncommon problem. The second reason for the fluid could be an infection in the lungs. They both look the same on an x-ray. So he wanted to do blood work, cultures, I.V. and put her on oxygen and antibiotics. They start the antibiotics before getting the test results back because it takes 48 hrs for an infection to be confirmed. They end up losing too much time if that is what is going on with the baby. The doctor thinks it is fluid from the delivery but we will not know for sure until tomorrow. Lizzy will have to stay in the hospital at the very least until Sunday and maybe longer. She has not been able to eat until today via feeding tube because of her breathing. She could not coordinate eating, swallowing, and breathing at the same time. We hope she will be able to start a bottle/nursing again tomorrow once her breathing slows down.
There are so many things for us to be grateful for. #1 is that Lizzy does not have a life threatening problem. #2 She is 3 times the size as most of the babies in the NICU. #3 We could have left the hospital not knowing about her breathing problem. #4 At home we would not have had a fleet of specialized doctors and nurses at our fingertips to diagnose the problem and care for her. It is God's kindness to us that we found the problem before we came home. The doctor said her symptoms would have gotten much worse had more time gone by before discovering the fluid in her lungs. #5 I had a wonderful time bonding with her Wednesday night and Thursday morning. #6 Sydney and Noah got to come see her before she went to NICU. And the list goes on and on of graces to us in this trial.
Thank you for your prayers, phone calls and e-mails. We will do our best over the next couple of days to get back with all of you. Please continue to pray for God to make right whatever is wrong and for comfort for us as it was hard to come home today without our little girl.

Lizzy-bears
Lizzy is doing great this morning. She nursed every hour to hour 1/2 last night and had 2 wet and 4 poopy diapers (those are good numbers). This is the first time we have delivered in a hospital that has "Mother/Baby suites". It has been great having her with us the whole time. Daddy is with her right now getting her hearing test done while I am updating the blog. I am happily exhausted. Delivery was very personal with only the doctor, nurse, Joshua and Lauren. In the past it has seemed like we have had 20 nursing students run into the room right when the pushing started which was a little overwhelming. So it was great this time around to only have the people I new in the room. Thank you all for your prayers for a wonderful delivery. God has blessed us again with another beautiful little girl that has captured our hearts the moment we saw her face.

Elizabeth (Lizzy) Grace Jordan is here!
Lizzy was born at 6:46 pm at 8.7 lbs & 20 1/2 inches long! Praise God for his kindness to us to bless us with such a special gift. We will post pictures later tonight.
Live from delivery room...
Hi everyone, Lauren Rohwer here: official blogger for Amanda's birth. :D
It's 11:30 now and both mommy and baby E are doing great. Amanda is 5 centimeters dialated and the nurses keep commenting on how baby E is doing awesome. Amanda had her epideral about an hour ago - I stayed with her in the room while Josh very willingly left. :) It went very well.
Right now the contractions are about 2-3 minutes apart and gradually getting stronger.
We'll keep you posted as things move along!!

The Big Day!
We will be checking into the hospital tonight and will be posting updates on our blog as we receive them from the doctor. Baby E's name and first pictures will be posted here tomorrow afternoon. So keep looking and praying for us as this wonderful time draws near.

Baby E's Induction
We will be checking in at the hospital at 6 p.m. on Tuesday December 2nd for the induction. Our doctor said we should expect baby E to arrive no later then Wednesday afternoon. Please pray that everything goes as well as the last 2 deliveries have. We can't believe we are going to get to see our baby girl in 4 days!

Psalm 131
O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things too great
or too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me.
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things too great
or too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me.
This has been a great Psalm for me to meditate on as the delivery approaches. To rest peacefully in knowing God is orchestrating the time and the place and I must wait in him.

Final Three
I am officially down to my final 3 appointments before baby E is born. My appointment today was pretty routine with little to no news to announce except that her heart beat is strong and that she is very active. Sydney and Noah are very excited and can hardly wait for her arrival. Sydney is looking forward to wearing their matching Christmas dresses and Noah is excited because he will no longer be blowing raspberry kisses on the baby belly but on the baby herself. Please continue to pray that over the next couple of weeks God would give me physical rest and energy so that I can keep up with our 2 and 3 year old sprouts in the last days of pregnancy.

Sonogram
Baby E looks great! She is around 6 pounds, 7 oz. now so we are looking at her being around 8 pounds at birth. Which is pretty good considering Sydney was 9.2 and Noah was 8.6 at birth. It was amazing to see her practice breathing and swallowing in such detail on the sonogram. Our next doctors appointment is Tuesday and we will discuss with Dr. Kazemi if we should plan on inducing or wait for labor to start on it's own. Thank you for your continued prayers for us in the following weeks as we prepare for her arrival.

Baby Update
We had our first doctors appointment yesterday since arriving in Maryland. Baby E's heart beat sounds great and she is very active. We have a sonogram this Friday to check her measurements and to make sure that there will be no surprises at birth. Thank you for your continued prayers as the day of delivery draws near.
